Double wire fencing, also known as twin wire mesh fencing, is well known for its double-horizontal-wire design. And the reinforced structure makes double wire fence popular among places where a secure and durable metal fence is needed.
Generally speaking, the double wire mesh fence is available in 2 different options. Option A, 8mm horizontal wires around a 6mm vertical wire, traditionally known as 868 wire fence; Option B, 6mm horizontal wires around a 5mm vertical wire, traditionally known as 656 wire fence. A wide range of heights and widths versions are available.
Before talking more about the double wire fencing, let’s check its technical information first.
Double wire mesh fences are usually produced by strictly complying with the following standards:
BS1722-14: 2017– Specifies requirements for 4 categories of open mesh steel panel fences. A. general purpose fences. B. boundary/perimeter fences. C. security fences. D. higher security fences.
ISO 1461:2022– Specifies the general properties of hot dip galvanized coatings and test methods for hot dip galvanized coatings applied by dipping fabricated iron and steel articles in a zinc melt (containing not more than 2 % of other metals).
BS EN 13438:2013– Specifies performance requirements for organic coating powders and powder organic coatings as applied to finished articles (hot dip galvanised or sherardised steel products) for construction purposes.

Sports fences, also called sports fencing or sports field fences, refer to the perimeter fences that are placed along various sports fields. We may easily see various fences in football fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts.
There are three basic functions to using sports field fences. First, mark the sports area clearly. Players and audiences will find the field easily by following instruction boards on the fence and better understanding which area they are supposed to be in easily. Second, sport fences will stop balls from going out and effectively protect the audience and walkers outside. Third, they will prevent unauthorized access and control the number of audiences accessing to the sports field.
Common sports fences in our daily life include curvy welded metal fence, chain link fence, and double wire fence.
This metal fence features V-shaped bending curves in the vertical direction. The special bending treatment increases the fence panel’s transverse strength while improving its anti-climb performance. And the curves can slightly mitigate the high impact from balls, consequently prolonging its service life. Anyway, we can’t expect super resistance performance from the curvy welded metal fence, after all the strength of single wires is not as strong as double ones.
Chain link fence is probably the most widely used type of fencing. You may see a chain link fence in sports fields, gardens, schools, parks, and even airports. We have to say, chain link fence is indeed well accepted by the public for its beautiful diamond design and affordable costs.
As a sport fence, chain link fencing can successfully stop flying balls from rushing out to cause any hurt to the audience and walkers outside. And the diamond holes of the chain link won’t affect your sight view of the match. However, the woven chain link is doomed to structural instability if one of the wires is cut off with intent.
Finally, we come to the double wire fence. Just as we mentioned at the beginning, double wire fencing is distinguished by the firm structure of double horizontal wires. The extra strong structure design makes twin wire fences especially suitable for sports fields where high impacts occur everyday.
In addition to the impacts from balls, double wire metal fence is also capable to fight against any vandalism. After all, cutting double fence wires is not easy work.
Double wire fence is obviously a good choice for sports fields after a rough comparison. No matter what sports fields you are going to use the twin wire fences and how many meters you plan to purchase, a reliable metal fence supplier will always provide professional suggestions.
